Taylor Swift set a pair of single-day streaming records on Spotify in 2026 following the surprise release of “Patient Zero” and an expanded edition of her album titled “The Life of a Showgirl: Encore”. According to Spotify, “Patient Zero” secured the record for the most-streamed song by a female artist in a single day for 2026, while Swift herself claimed the title of the platform’s most-streamed female artist in a single day this year.
Album Expansion and Chart Dominance
The expanded release arrived at midnight, introducing four unreleased tracks to Swift’s 2025 album “The Life of a Showgirl”. The new songs include “Patient Zero“, “Cleveland!”, “Pink Clouding”, and “Babylon”.
Following their debut, all four new additions swept the top four positions on Spotify’s Top 50 – Global chart. “Patient Zero” led the group with over 13.7 million streams. It was followed by “Cleveland” at 9.6 million streams, “Pink Clouding” at 8.7 million streams, and “Babylon” at 8.4 million streams.
On social media, Swift explained that the impromptu recording session took place in Sweden alongside Max and Shellback. Swift wrote, I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max and Shellback, my two collaborators on this album. Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs. I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made.

The surprise drop was preceded by a series of clues planted across television appearances. During the Emmy Awards telecast, Swift appeared in a “Law & Order: SVU”-themed skit alongside Mariska Hargitay. In character as a detective, Swift told viewers, I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight,
before breaking the fourth wall to say, Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or south.
Fans quickly decoded the hint by noting that the third letter of each highlighted word spelled out “encore”. Swift subsequently announced limited-edition CDs of her upcoming single before revealing the full expanded album project.
Upcoming Music Video Premiere
Streaming figures for the new tracks could climb further following the premiere of the full music video for “Patient Zero” at the MTV Video Music Awards. The ceremony broadcasts live on CBS and MTV while streaming on Paramount+ Premium in the United States. A teaser clip for the video, released ahead of the awards show, features appearances by Colin Farrell and Dakota Johnson with cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki. Swift is also slated to receive the inaugural Artist-Director Award during the event.
