Taylor Swift Reclaims Rights to Early Recordings

Taylor Swift has announced she has reacquired the rights to her first six studio albums. This move comes after a six-year battle that began when Scooter Braun purchased her former record label, Big Machine, gaining control of her early discography.
Swift’s determination to regain ownership led to the ”(Taylor’s Version)” campaign, a project where she meticulously re-records each of those albums. The goal: to replace the originals in the marketplace and regain full autonomy over her music.
In a statement posted on her website alongside a photo on social media surrounded by her early albums, Swift expressed her gratitude.”All I’ve ever wanted was the opportunity to work hard enough to be able to one day purchase my music outright with no strings attached, no partnership, with full autonomy,” Swift said.
She also thanked Shamrock Capital for offering her the opportunity to buy her masters. “The way they’ve handled every interaction has been honest, fair, and respectful,” she added. ”This was a business deal to them, but I really felt like they saw it for what it was to me: My memories and my sweat and my handwriting and my decades of dreams. I am endlessly thankful.”
While earlier reports suggested Braun encouraged the deal between Swift and Shamrock capital, a source familiar with the negotiations told The times that the credit belongs solely to Shamrock Capital and Swift’s management team. ”Taylor now owns all of her music, and this moment finally happened in spite of Scooter Braun, not because of him,” the source said.
Swift also addressed “Reputation (Taylor’s Version),” noting, “[I]t’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or the photos or videos. So I kept putting it off,” she said. “There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch.” She added that she has already completely re-recorded her self-titled debut album and loves how it sounds.
