Major Handball Event Coming to Gran Canaria
Telde, in Gran Canaria, has been selected as the official host city for the III Spanish Men’s Handball Cup, scheduled for February 7-8, 2026. The event is the result of a collaborative agreement between the Telde City Council, the Royal Spanish Handball Federation, the Canarian Federation, the Government of the Canary islands, and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria.
Matches will primarily take place at the Rita Hernández island pavilion. The competition will feature four top-tier spanish teams: Barça, Dicorpebal Logroño La Rioja, Irudek Bidasoa irun, and Recoletas Atlético Valladolid.
Mini Cup to Run Concurrently
Alongside the main spanish Cup, a Spanish Mini Cup tournament will be held for youth category teams representing the qualified clubs.The Mini Cup will mirror the format of the senior competition, including a third/fourth place match at the Antonio Moreno pavilion in Telde, with the semifinals and final also taking place at the Rita Hernández pavilion.
Boost for Local Sports
Cristhian Santana, Telde’s Councilor for Sports, emphasized the significance of securing the event. He stated that the selection demonstrates the resurgence of sports within the municipality, signaling a return to a period of strength and prominence. The city council intends to continue investing in and supporting local athletic initiatives.

Details regarding ticket sales, the event draw schedule, and access to both the Spanish Cup and Mini Cup will be announced shortly through the Royal Spanish handball federation.
