Tenacious D‘s Kyle Gass Expresses Regret Over 2024 Trump Assassination Attempt Joke
kyle Gass of Tenacious D says he has felt “terrible” since making a joke about the 2024 assassination attempt on Donald Trump, a comment that considerably altered the band’s career trajectory, according to a new interview with Rolling Stone published Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Gass recounted regretting his on-stage quip – made while receiving a birthday cake with bandmate Jack black – that he wished the shooter wouldn’t “miss Trump next time.” He stated he did not anticipate the remark would garner attention, calling his initial assessment “naive.”
“I’m human, I made a mistake,” Gass told rolling Stone. “I was going for a joke.”
