BIRMINGHAM – Texas A&M University celebrated the academic achievements of 71 student-athletes named to the 2025 Fall Southeastern Conference (SEC) Academic Honor Roll, as announced by SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
The recognition highlights the dedication and discipline demonstrated by Aggie student-athletes in balancing rigorous academic pursuits with the demands of intercollegiate athletics. “The drive our student-athletes show in their academic work is just as impressive as what they bring to competition,” said Texas A&M Director of Athletics Trev Alberts. “Their focus and discipline in the classroom represent an important milestone on the path to graduation. I appreciate the effort they’ve invested and the outstanding support from our staff. Congratulations to all who earned recognition on the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll.”
Dr. Dan Childs, who oversees Texas A&M’s Center of Student-Athlete Services, echoed this sentiment, stating, “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to every Texas A&M student-athlete named to the 2025 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll. This achievement reflects a tremendous level of dedication, discipline, and perseverance. Balancing the demands of elite competition with academic excellence is no small feat, and our department couldn’t be prouder of the commitment each of you showed throughout the fall semester. You continue to embody what it means to be an Aggie—leaders in the classroom, in competition, and in our community. Congratulations on earning this prestigious honor.”
The Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll encompasses student-athletes from men’s and women’s cross country, football, soccer, and volleyball programs. Notably, the football team, under the leadership of Coach Mike Elko, achieved a program-first appearance in the College Football Playoff and finished the season ranked No. 8 nationally, with 39 players earning SEC academic honors. The volleyball team, coached by Jamie Morrison, secured an NCAA Championship in 2025 and saw eight players recognized on the Honor Roll.
The women’s cross country team, coached by Pat Henry and Wendel McRaven, also achieved significant success, winning its second regional title in program history and advancing to the NCAA Championships, with six runners earning a place on the Honor Roll. The men’s cross country team contributed six honorees, while the soccer team added 12 to the list of recognized student-athletes.
To be eligible for the Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll, student-athletes must maintain a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year or possess a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher at their institution. Graduate student-athletes are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA for the preceding academic year or a cumulative graduate school GPA of 3.00. Students must also have completed at least 24 semester hours (or 36 quarter hours) of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree, or 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) toward a graduate degree. Student-athletes must be active members of a varsity team during the sport’s NCAA Championship segment.
The SEC’s criteria also include consideration for student-athletes receiving athletics scholarships, those earning athletics awards (such as letter winners), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have participated on a varsity team for at least two seasons. Summer coursework is factored into GPA calculations for eligibility purposes.
