Los Angeles ‌Protests Continue Under Curfew Amid Calls ‍for peaceful​ Demonstrations

A curfew will remain⁢ in effect in downtown Los Angeles Saturday night as the ‌city braces for further protests.⁢ Mayor⁤ Karen Bass said⁤ that‍ the city has mobilized additional personnel​ to ⁢ensure public safety ⁤and protect property during these ⁤demonstrations. The ongoing protests⁢ and the city’s response highlight the ‌delicate balance between the right to assembly‍ and the need ​to maintain order.

Bass noted that Friday’s protests were largely peaceful, resulting‌ in⁢ only a ‍few ⁤arrests. Though, ​she emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for property damage or actions endangering officers or the ⁣public. The ‍mayor urged protesters to maintain peace, emphasizing​ the‌ vital ⁢role⁣ of demonstrating responsibly. She cautioned against ​actions that could provoke federal intervention,appealing to ⁤the city to‍ showcase‌ its best qualities to the⁣ world.

Los Angeles Police Department chief Jim McDonnell echoed the ⁤mayor’s ‌sentiment, stating that the department is committed to protecting those⁤ who wish to ⁤peacefully protest and make ⁢their voices heard. He warned, however, that anyone ⁣intending to ‌commit crimes, damage property, or harm others, including law enforcement, would face arrest. ‍The LAPD is asking all participants to conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully during⁢ today’s events.
