Texas Softball Defeats Ohio State in Bevo Classic

February 13, 2026 – The University of Texas Longhorns softball team secured a 14-6 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Thursday at McCombs Field in Austin, as part of the Bevo Classic tournament.

The Longhorns (6-1) showcased a powerful offensive performance, highlighted by four home runs, including two from catcher Reese Atwood. Atwood’s performance brought her career total to 61 home runs, further solidifying her place in program history. A day prior, Atwood had set the program’s all-time record with her 59th home run in an 11-0 win over Abilene Christian.

Second baseman Leighann Goode also contributed significantly to the Longhorns’ offensive output, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs and her fourth home run of the season. Kayden Henry scored four runs during the game.

The game began with the Longhorns taking an early 6-0 lead, but the Buckeyes battled back before Texas extended their advantage with eight late runs, ultimately triggering the mercy rule and securing the win.

In the pitching circle, Teagan Kavan initially struggled, allowing five runs and seven hits in 2 1/3 innings. However, Citlaly Gutierrez stepped in to earn the win, limiting Ohio State to one run and three hits over 2 2/3 innings.

The Longhorns continued their participation in the Bevo Classic on Friday, facing Syracuse with a scheduled first pitch around 8 p.m.

Ohio State’s record now stands at 3-3 following the defeat. The Longhorns entered the game with a 5-1 record.

The game against Abilene Christian on Thursday, February 12, 2026, saw Atwood break the Longhorns softball career home run record. Images from that game show pitcher Hannah Wells and infielder Leighann Goode in action, as well as the team huddling before the game.

The Bevo Classic continues to draw attention to the Texas Longhorns softball program, showcasing their talent and competitive spirit early in the 2025-26 season.
