FORT WORTH, Texas – In ⁤a move aimed at increasing access to higher education, Texas wesleyan University announced Tuesday that ⁤it will offer free tuition to eligible first-year students starting in the fall of⁢ 2025.

the program will benefit Texas residents⁣ who qualify for full Pell Grants, a need-based federal grant that does not need to ‍be repaid.

“This program ⁤is a game-changer for students in Texas⁣ who dream of a college education,especially at a small,private‍ institution like Texas Wesleyan,that may face financial barriers,” said Texas Wesleyan President Frederick G.Slabach. “we believe in the power of education to transform lives. By eliminating tuition barriers for deserving Texas students, we’re opening doors ⁤to countless opportunities.”

To be eligible⁤ for the‍ free tuition benefit, students must be first-time freshmen⁣ enrolled full-time and maintain satisfactory ⁢academic progress. The benefit can be renewed for up⁢ to four years. Students receiving free tuition ‍may also qualify for additional scholarships to cover the costs of books⁢ and room and board.

Interested students ⁣can apply for the free tuition program by completing ⁤the Free ⁣Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).⁣ If they qualify for ⁤the full Pell Grant, the free tuition benefit ⁤will cover ⁤any remaining tuition not covered by the grant.

The Pell Grant maximum for the 2024-25 school year is $7,395, though amounts vary depending on individual student need. Texas Wesleyan tuition for full-time students is approximately $34,000.
