Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra Unveils Details of Cash Handout Program

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has revealed more information about the cash handout program for the people of Thailand, a 450 billion baht ($13 billion) initiative aimed at boosting the country’s economy.

The cash handout plan will be delivered to Thai people via both e-wallets and cash, according to Prime Minister Shinawatra. This populist policy was a key promise made by the Pheu Thai party during the election campaign.

Although the program’s future was uncertain following the ousting of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, both Pheu Thai and Prime Minister Shinawatra have expressed their support for the initiative.

Prime Minister Shinawatra has announced that the policy details are being finalized and will be presented to parliament soon. The program aims to transfer funds to 50 million Thais, who can spend the money locally within six months.

The new administration has introduced a change to the original plan by adding cash handouts, although the exact percentage of the budget allocated to this item has not been disclosed.

At 38 years old, Prime Minister Shinawatra became the Prime Minister of Thailand last month and is expected to form a new government in mid-September. The cash handout program is a key strategy to stimulate the Thai economy, which is growing at a slower pace than many countries in the region.
