Thailand seals Cambodia Border Over Scam Centers, security Concerns

Thailand has sealed its border with Cambodia, citing threats to national security and the proliferation of scam centers.The army and navy are enforcing the measure in several provinces, including Buri Ram, Sa Kaeo, and Trat.

Maj. Gen.Winthai Suvaree, an army spokesman, said the border closure affects vehicle crossings, trade, and general travel for both Thai citizens and foreigners. Exceptions will be made for humanitarian cases, such as urgent medical needs and students, subject to local military discretion.
The border closure supports government policy addressing national security and ongoing tensions with Cambodia. These tensions include political,diplomatic,and military dimensions. The intensified measure also aims to combat call center and hybrid scam operations impacting Thai citizens.
The chanthaburi and Trat Border Defense Command of the navy is implementing similar measures in their respective provinces.
Tensions escalated in April after Cambodian troops entered the Chong Bok area of Ubon Ratchathani province.
