For county councilors and Taichung City’s 15th District City Councilor, all political parties have devoted their efforts to support the election, which is like an extension of the 2024 presidential and legislative elections.

The 2024 presidential and legislative elections concluded in January this year. The 11th legislators took office on February 1. 19 of the elected candidates are also current elected local public officials. A total of 5 vacancies require by-elections. In addition, Former Mailiao Township Mayor Cai Changkun was removed from office due to the invalidity of the second trial. The Central Election Commission will set the voting day on the 13th.

In the by-election for the mayor of Dawu Township in Taitung, the Kuomintang nominated Wang Jingchang, the current vice chairman of the Dawu Township Representative Association, who is 57 years old and has 22 years of political experience. The Democratic Progressive Party recruited 71-year-old founding member Xiao Guoshu. The current representative Gao Chunhua left the Kuomintang and had no party membership. Stand for election.

The Kuomintang’s high-profile auxiliary election Wang Jingchang, from party chairman Zhu Lilun and secretary-general Huang Jianting to Taitung County Mayor Rao Qingling and speaker Wu Xiuhua, has accompanied the vote many times, hoping to continue to be in power; the Democratic Progressive Party hopes that Xiao Guoshu will be a “veteran with a new face and a pioneer who will open the way” for the people. The Chinese Communist Party is opening up new territories along the Southern Circuit; Gao Chunhua hopes to fight her way out of the two parties.

There are three people competing in the Miaoli mayor by-election. Current county councilors Yu Wenzhong and Xu Xiaojing are running on behalf of the Kuomintang and Democratic Progressive Party respectively, and “Father of Four” Lin Zhihao is running as a non-party member. During the golden week before the election, the blue-green camp had central-level big names to support the campaign. Lin Zhihao appealed to break away from the blue-green camp, hoping to carve out a bloody path between the two parties.

Xu Xiaojing recently made rice balls with prospective vice-president Xiao Meiqin to appeal for unity and inject youth and change power into Miaoli City with the tenderness and tenacity of women; Yu Wenzhong, Legislative President Han Guoyu and KMT Chairman Zhu Lilun appeared on the pre-election night to show their strength Supported by the county magistrate Zhong Dongjin, former county magistrate Xu Yaochang and other local blue camp figures, they actively consolidated their votes.

Four candidates have registered for the Huwei Town Mayor by-election. In addition to the independent Wu Binghui who failed to challenge the legislator, the high-profile candidates include the independent Lin Jiahong, who is supported by Yunlin County Magistrate Zhang Lishan, the legislator Ding Xuezhong and others, and the independent Yunlin County Independent Congressman Huang Meiyao and Lin Mingzheng, secretary of former legislator Su Zhifen recruited by the Democratic Progressive Party.

The Kuomintang frequently went to Huwei Town to assist in the election, boosting Lin Jiahong’s momentum. Huang Meiyao did not lose, emphasizing that public opinion was her biggest backing, while Lin Mingzheng had the support of the Democratic Progressive Party. The three parties were equally powerful.

The Mailiao Township Mayor by-election was like a playoff in the Township Mayor election. Except for former Township Mayor Cai Changkun who stepped down due to his invalid election, the other four losers came back to try again.

Lin Yifeng was originally an independent. This time, he was recommended by the People’s Party to run for election. People’s Party Chairman Ke Wenzhe gave the entire party support to one person. Yunlin County Councilor Xu Liubin, who has no party membership, and Xu Zhongfu, a member of the Democratic Progressive Party, ran for election as non-party members and were recruited by the Kuomintang. Former Yunlin County Councilor Xu Zhihao was involved in a fierce tug-of-war among various forces, forming the four governors.

In addition, in the Yuanshan Township County Councilor by-election in Yilan County, although all four candidates registered to run as non-party members, the DPP supported former Yuanshan Township representative Lan Wanyi, while the Kuomintang supported the wife of Yuanshan Township Mayor Zhang Yihua Huang Wenru indirectly formed a blue-green duel situation, and the outcome is still difficult to determine.
