A 285-year-old lemon was sold at auction in Britain for around 1,400 pounds (around 2.35 million won).

According to the BBC on the 7th (local time), Brettel Auction House in Newport, England, announced that a lemon believed to have been produced in 1739 was sold to a British collector for 1,416 pounds last month.
Auctioneer David Brettel said: “The lemon was found in the bottom drawer of a 19th century cabinet which a family had brought to sell after the death of a relative. They thought it would be interesting, so it is estimated to be £40-60 (about 67,000-100,000 won) “I put the lemon up for auction,” he said.
The skin of the lemon turned dark brown over time, but kept its shape relatively intact. The shell is engraved with the following words, ‘Pie Ru Francini gave as a gift to Miss E. Baxter, November 4, 1739.’ Francini and Baxter are not known.

The media reported, “The lemons appear to have been imported from India to the UK, and are believed to be a ‘romantic gift’ from Francini to Baxter.”
A total of 35 people competed for this lemon, and it was eventually sold for 1,416 pounds (about 2.38 million won), more than 20 times the estimated price.
One medium said, “It is very rare for food to survive for three centuries.”
“You’ll never see anything like this at auction again,” said auctioneer Brettel. “It’s very special.”
