The three deputy ministers strongly condemned North Korea’s illegal ICBM launch, which destabilizes the region and the world, and noted that the launch was held again amid rising tensions with North Korea’s successive ballistic missile launches and aggressive language.

The Vice Ministers reaffirmed the importance of trilateral cooperation in responding to North Korea’s illegal and increasingly dangerous behavior.

Deputy Secretary Sherman reaffirmed the firm defense commitments of the United States to South Korea and Japan, and emphasized the need for the international community to unite to hold North Korea accountable for its ongoing flagrant violations of several United Nations Security Council resolutions.

Deputy Secretary Sherman also urged North Korea to stop its illegal and destabilizing activities and engage in continued and sincere dialogue, the State Department added.
