The Egyptian Football Association dismisses Vitoria and appoints a temporary coach

The Federation’s Board of Directors issued an official statement following its meeting on Sunday, which said: “The Egyptian Federation’s Board of Directors decided, after discussing the technical and administrative reports regarding the national team’s participation in the 2023 African Nations Championship in Côte d’Ivoire, to thank the Portuguese Rui Vitoria, the coach of the Egyptian national team, and his assistant staff, while studying the biographies of the coaches.” foreigners and present it at the next meeting.”

The Council also decided to approve the appointment of Mohamed Youssef, the former Al-Ahly and Egypt national team player, as temporary coach of the national team until a foreign technical director and his assistant staff are selected.

The Football Association’s statement did not clarify the fate of the penalty clause in Vitoria’s contract, which receives a monthly salary of 200,000 euros, and is entitled to three months’ salary if he is dismissed before the expiry of the 15-day deadline from the date of exit from the African Cup of Nations.

Vitoria took over as coach of the Egyptian national team in July 2022, succeeding Ihab Galal, with a four-year contract. The Portuguese led the national team in 18 matches, including 8 friendly matches in addition to 10 official matches.

The Pharaohs will play their next official match against Burkina Faso on June 5, 2024, in the third round of the group stage of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
