Owlcat Games debuted a new trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn during Gamescom’s Find Your Next Game showcase, revealing a mid-game infiltration mission on the Jovian moon Ganymede and the appearance of Project Caliban, according to reports from GameSpot and Dot Esports. The upcoming sci-fi role-playing game is slated for release in the second quarter of 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a day-one launch on Xbox Game Pass.
Ganymede Infiltration and Project Caliban Reveal
According to GameSpot, the new footage highlights the developer’s adaptation of Project Caliban, a top-secret experiment run by the fictional company Protogen to create supersoldiers using the Protomolecule. Players will encounter both Protogen’s armed guards and a human-Protomolecule hybrid test subject modeled closely after the entity featured in Season 2 of the television adaptation. Dot Esports notes that Owlcat is visually aligning the Protomolecule with the TV series rather than the original novels. While the books describe the substance as a slimy, brownish material, Osiris Reborn renders it with the bright, glowing blue bioluminescence seen on screen.
Gameplay Systems and Narrative Setup
Reporting from Dot Esports details that the newly shown Ganymede mission sends the customizable protagonist—referred to in-game simply as “the Captain”—and their twin sibling, J, to break into a secure Protogen facility to recover data stolen on Pinkwater station. The operation initially relies on undercover stealth before an unexpected third party releases a bioengineered creature inside the base. The Expanse: Osiris Reborn kicks off its overarching narrative with the player operating as a Pinkwater Security mercenary caught up in the Eros disaster, which leads to them taking command of the ship Gemini and assembling a crew. Players can select whether the Captain is an Earther, Martian, or Belter, with choices influencing companion relationships and quest outcomes.

Companion Mechanics and Development Status
Combat and exploration deploy a third-person perspective drawing comparisons from critics to Mass Effect. Players bring two crew members into the field while utilizing an Exploits mechanic that allows companions left aboard the Gemini to offer remote technical support during missions, with characters like Zafar and Michael confirmed as part of the roster. Owlcat previously ran a closed beta test starting on April 22, 2026, which focused on an earlier mission on Pinkwater 4. Following player feedback concerning the male lead’s voice acting during that testing phase, GameSpot reports that Owlcat recast the role of the male player-character. The title is currently available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its scheduled spring 2027 release window.
