Russian Armed Forces captain Dmitry Degot was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment in Ukraine due to his involvement in the massacre of civilians in Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine reported.

Thus, according to the investigation, Degot was the head of intelligence of the 64th separate motorized rifle brigade of the armed forces of the Russian Federation and participated in the capture of the Buchansky district of the Kyiv region.

In particular, during the period of temporary occupation of the community, it was Degot who commanded the actions of his subordinates during punitive actions against local residents, when the occupiers kidnapped and killed people, and also robbed private homes.

The SBU notes that the Russian military himself used firearms against civilians. So, on March 3, 2022, on one of the streets in the village of Gavronshchina, Degot stopped an unarmed 70-year-old citizen and hit him in the face with the butt of a machine gun. After the victim fell, the racist gunman shot the man in the back.

“A forensic medical examination initiated by the SBU confirmed that the cause of death of a local resident was multiple gunshot wounds and loss of blood. Based on the collected evidence, the court found Degty guilty under Part 2 of Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war) and sentenced him to life imprisonment in absentia,” the SBU noted.

Since the verdict was passed in absentia, comprehensive measures are ongoing to establish the whereabouts of the convicted person in order to punish him for crimes against the citizens of our state.
