The Human Rights Committee calls on the government to improve workers’ conditions Sahara Media

The National Human Rights Commission called on the Mauritanian government to redouble efforts to “ensure decent and safe working conditions for all workers.”

This came in a statement, today, Wednesday, on the occasion of Mauritania commemorating, like countries around the world, International Workers’ Day.

“In this particular period characterized by multiple challenges, we urge the authorities to redouble their efforts to ensure dignified and safe working conditions for all workers,” the committee said. This includes protecting basic rights such as the right to fair and equitable pay, safe working conditions, and respect for international labor standards.”

She called for strengthening solidarity with the most vulnerable workers, especially those working in unclassified and unstable sectors, to ensure that they also benefit from social protection and professional development opportunities.

She concluded by saying, “On this day of celebration of work, we remember that respecting workers’ rights is not only a legal obligation, but also a cornerstone of any just and balanced society.”
