Expectations for next month are growing… Semiconductor, bio-health, etc. ‘Sunny’
(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Yoon Bo-ram = An analysis showed that the improvement in the manufacturing industry has slowed for five consecutive months. Expectations for an improvement in the industry next month turned to an uptrend for the first time in three months.
As a result of a survey of the expert survey index (PSI) of 186 experts in each major industry in Korea, the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade announced on the 23rd that the manufacturing industry status PSI in August was 109, down from the previous month (114).
PSI is based on 100 (no change from the previous month), the closer it is to 200, the more opinions are increased (improved) compared to the previous month, and the closer it is to 0, the more opinions are decreased (worse).
The manufacturing industry PSI has been above 100 for 15 consecutive months since June last year. However, compared to the previous month, it fell for five consecutive months.
All detailed indicators such as domestic demand (110), exports (120), production (112), investment (111), and profitability (100) exceeded 100, but fell all at once compared to the previous month.
By industry, mobile phones (125), steel (107), and bio/health (121) exceeded 100 unlike the previous month. On the other hand, automobiles (97), chemicals (88), and textiles (79) were below 100.
Compared with the previous month, a number of industries including semiconductors (-20), displays (-21), automobiles (-22), shipbuilding (-23), and textiles (-36) showed double-digit declines.
The September industry outlook PSI was 116, higher than the previous month (112), turning to an uptrend for the first time in three months.
As domestic demand (122) and exports (129) rose for the first time in three and two months, respectively, production (123) and investment (117) both showed an upward trend.
By industry, semiconductors (138), mobile phones (139), and bio/health (132) significantly exceeded 100. However, the display 100, home appliance 100, machine 96, chemistry 92, etc. did not exceed 100.
Compared to the previous month, semiconductors and home appliances remained flat, while bio/health (+32), mobile phones (+29), automobiles (+16), chemicals (+13), and textiles (+11) saw double-digit gains. showed
