The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was unveiled as a significant development during the G-20 summit held in New Delhi. This international rail transport route aims to connect Asia and Europe, promoting economic integration and collaboration between these regions.

A Surprising Connection

Recently, the conflict between Hamas and Israel has led to interesting discussions surrounding the IMEC project. During a press conference in Washington with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, United States President Joe Biden made a statement suggesting that the proposed economic corridor might have played a role in triggering Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7. Biden suggested that one of the factors that prompted Hamas to launch a surprise attack on Israel on October 7 was the proposed economic corridor. But Biden said he had no evidence to confirm this. He said that the fear of regional integration in West Asia in favor of Israel could be the cause of the anger once the plan becomes a reality, but the plan or the integration activities cannot be abandoned as a result of the attack.
