The 2026 Masters Tournament in Augusta, Georgia, has seen a surge in demand for its limited-edition garden gnomes, which have evolved from kitschy souvenirs into high-value assets on the secondary collectibles market.

Retail priced at $49.50 and limited to one purchase per patron, these 13.5-inch statuettes often vanish from the Augusta National golf shop shelves almost immediately upon arrival. According to reporting from ESPN on April 8, 2026, the secondary market value for a Masters gnome can reach approximately $550.

The 2026 Edition and Market Demand

The 2026 iteration of the gnome features a specific design unveiled via Instagram prior to the tournament. The figure is dressed in a green Masters flat-brim hat, a white-and-green striped Masters polo shirt, a blue vest, and khaki slacks. A notable addition for the 2026 model is a working umbrella, a detail described by Golf.com as a unique twist for this year’s merchandise.

Business Insider reported on April 11, 2026, that fervor for the items has reached a fever pitch following reports that the gnomes may be discontinued. While Augusta National does not publicly disclose merchandise sales figures, anecdotal estimates suggest approximately 1,000 gnomes are sold per day. Given that daily attendance is estimated between 40,000 and 50,000 patrons, only a small fraction of attendees are able to acquire one at the retail price.

Collectibility and Secondary Markets

The scarcity of the gnomes has made them a primary target for resellers. Ryan Carey, a golf memorabilia expert and head of Golden Age Auctions, noted that the level of interest in these gnomes is unprecedented compared to other high-value sports artifacts.

The number of people that care about these gnomes, that love these gnomes, that want to collect these gnomes is unlike anything I can really remember seeing. We sold Tiger Woods’ irons from the Tiger Slam a few years ago for over $5 million. I get more emails about these damn gnomes than I do those clubs.

Mike Provenzale, production manager at Heritage Auctions, explained that gnomes are more accessible for fans to acquire and resell than match-worn apparel or equipment used by professional players during the event.

Historical Context and Revenue

The tradition of the Masters gnome began in 2016 with a variant wearing an argyle sweater. After the item was not released in 2017, it returned in 2018 and has remained a staple of the tournament’s merchandise offerings since then. Each year, the gnome is updated with new attire, including previous versions featuring caddie outfits, plaid pants, and blue Masters sweaters.

Merchandise represents one of the tournament’s most significant revenue streams, as items are sold exclusively on-site. Some reports indicate that tournament merchandise has previously generated approximately $69 million in revenue.

To manage the intense demand, Augusta National has previously adjusted its inventory. According to Golf Digest, as cited by Golf.com, the club doubled the number of gnomes available for sale during the 2025 tournament to approximately 1,000 units.
