“At no time was there any question of any government or presidential decision.” This is what the communications department of the Ministry of Justice and Legislation says about rumors of a desire to release a significant number of prisoners. According to the ministry, a workshop on “Collaboration approaches of actors and modalities for harmonization and processing of judicial acts”, took place on Saturday October 21, 2023, at the ministry. It brought together all the Chief Registrars of the lower courts, the President and certain members of the office of the National Chamber of Bailiffs of Benin. “The activity focused, among other things, on the digitization of court decisions to improve their conservation, the security of judicial documents, the examination of dysfunctions which slow down the diligent implementation of legal provisions relating to sentence adjustments (conditional release , suspension of sentences and presidential pardon) for the search for suitable solutions”, we can read on the digital channels of the ministry. On this occasion, specifies the ministry, there was no question, at any time, of any government or presidential decision. “The publications on the subject are therefore inaccurate and only those of their authors,” informs the ministry’s denial.
