“King Akhenaten opening the tomb for us himself” was a surprise that engineer Karim Badr, a lover of Egyptian heritage, had not anticipated. He went with his friends on a trip to the city of Tell el-Amarna in Minya Governorate, only to find himself in an interview that took him back thousands of years, specifically to the era of King Akhenaten. When the Egyptian engineer encountered the features of the tomb guard, which closely resembled the statue engraved in people’s minds about the pharaoh calling for monotheism.

In an interview with Al-Watan, engineer Karim Badr, a lover of Egyptian heritage, narrated the scenes of the photo that was circulated by social media users, in a state of astonishment and pride at the strong similarity between the simple tomb guard and King Akhenaten.

“Badr” spoke that he went on an archaeological trip with his friends to the city of Tell el-Amarna, in Minya Governorate, which is the city that witnessed the era of King Akhenaten, and during a tour of tourist attractions between the royal tombs, the last of which was the tomb of King Akhenaten, which “Sheikh Kamel” has guarded for years, in At first, the Egyptian engineer did not notice the hint that brought the tomb guard together with King Akhenaten, saying: “At first, I did not notice his features, because of the heat of the sun and that I was focused on the tour.”

But Karim’s habit of photographing everything related to the past made him ask the simple guard to take several pictures of him: “He was welcoming and he was a very nice man.” The Egyptian engineer continued his tour accompanied by Sheikh Kamel, the cemetery’s guard, who did not realize if he was carrying Among the features of King Akhenaten, according to “Karim”: “I don’t know if he knew he looked like a king or not… I didn’t ask him at the time.”

As soon as “Karim” finished his tour and started looking at the pictures he had taken, he was surprised by the resemblance that the tomb guard had to King Akhenaten. He put them on his Facebook page, not expecting them to spread in this way, accompanied by a description of “King Akhenaten’s likeness”: “I was surprised by its spread… and it really did.” The picture shows a very great amount of pride in our Egyptian civilization.”
