I checked the parliamentary situation today,

Let’s talk more with reporters.

Reporter Lee Ki-joo from the political team is here.

This reporter, the two key bills the Democrats are pushing.

The amendments to the Prosecutor’s Office Act passed today and the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Act that are currently in filibuster.

yes. Today, the amendment bill to the Prosecutor’s Office Act passed the plenary session of the National Assembly, and the rest of the Criminal Procedure Act is now in the process of resolution.

First, the key to the amendment to the Prosecutor’s Office Act passed today is to reduce the scope of the prosecution’s direct investigation into two categories: corruption crimes and economic crimes.

There are criticisms that the prosecution has excessive power by conducting investigations and prosecutions, so the authority to investigate is reduced.

In addition, a provision stipulated in the law that “a prosecutor cannot prosecute a crime that he or she has investigated” entered the law, and the investigative prosecutor and the prosecution prosecutor are also separated.

However, election crimes were put on hold until the end of this year, allowing the prosecution to investigate this local election crime.

The key to the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act proposed today is to ban separate investigations.

A new provision was made to prohibit the investigation of separate cases so that the prosecution could not arbitrarily investigate completely different cases.

I left the room open for that.

Now, with the so-called ‘session split’, today was the second session in April, but today’s filibuster ends at midnight because it is a one-day session.

What’s the next schedule going now?

◀ reporter ▶

The next plenary meeting is scheduled for 10 am on the 3rd of next month.

It is expected that the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act will be handled as the first agenda item on this day.

A cabinet meeting is also scheduled on the same day, and it is highly likely that the amendments to the Prosecutor’s Office Act and the Criminal Procedure Act will be promulgated at the State Council meeting on the same day as the Democratic Party’s plan.

Then, the two bills are expected to come into effect in September, four months later.

However, since the power of the people has no way within the National Assembly, the Constitutional Court has issued an injunction to suspend the effect, and also filed a request for adjudication over the power of the private special committee.

The decision of the Constitutional Court remains a variable.

In addition, the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office issued a statement today and protested, saying, “The President and the Speaker of the National Assembly should consider carefully,” and “It will remain as a big blot in history.”
