Tehran: Protesters in Iran are said to have set fire to the old house of the country’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, three months after the uprising following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was taken into custody by the Religious Affairs Police. A house-turned-museum in the city of Khomeini, Khomeini’s birthplace, was set on fire on Thursday, according to media reports. The film was distributed on social media.
Ayatollah Khomeini died in 1989. There are also widespread protests against his successor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Protests spread across Iran after the death of a Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini (22), while in the custody of the Religious Affairs Police on September 16. She was detained by the Religious Affairs Police in Tehran for not following hijab rules.
At least 348 protesters have been killed. Reports also say that 15,900 people have been arrested. Iran accuses the US and Israel of being behind the protests.
Four more protesters sentenced to death
Meanwhile, Iran sentenced four other people to death in connection with anti-government protests. With this, the number of those sentenced to death has increased to five. However, human rights activists strongly condemned the death penalty.
