Kwon Do-hyeong, CEO of Terraform Labs, who was accused of the collapse of the Korean coins Luna and Terra USD (UST), was assigned to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office’s Financial and Securities Crime Joint Investigation Team.

According to the prosecution on the 20th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office announced on the 20th that it had allocated the case of CEO Kwon, who was suspected of a so-called ‘Ponzi scam’, which provided profits to existing investors with the money of new investors, to the consortium.

In less than 24 hours after receiving the complaint, the case was assigned to the amalgamation team, effectively becoming the ‘first case’ of the amalgamation unit, which was revived immediately after Han Dong-hoon took office as Minister of Justice.

Prosecutors are said to be considering whether to apply the fraud charges to Kwon under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (Special Law). It is reported that the view that the ‘anchor protocol’ part, which guarantees a 20% annual rate of return by buying and entrusting UST, can be a Ponzi scam (a multi-level financial scam that provides profits to existing investors with new investors’ money) is weighing on the opinion.

There is also a possibility that CEO Kwon, who was recently fined tens of billions of won for tax evasion, will be on the line of investigation on charges of tax evasion.

Earlier, CEO Kwon, along with Terraform Labs Corporation and co-founder Hyun-seong Shin, was sued for fraud by investors who suffered losses from the Lunar and UST crash the day before.

Meanwhile, Justice Minister Han Dong-hoon said on the same day that Choo Mi-ae abolished the coalition, “No matter how much I think about it, I can’t find any public interest that needs to be abolished.”

Minister Han said this in a comprehensive policy inquiry by the Special Committee on Budget and Settlement of the National Assembly on the morning of the same day and emphasized, “I think this is a measure that gave the market the wrong message that it would respond softly to financial securities crimes, which are victims of the common people.”

He said, “You cannot detect all such white-collar crimes anyway. However, it is important to give the public a message that the state will take strong measures against such crimes.” It gives me the courage to participate.”

He added, “There is no place to appeal for such crimes, where the common people suffer.
