The Russians are using chemical weapons against Ukrainian Armed Forces holding a bridgehead on the left bank of the Dnieper – ISW

The 810th Marine Brigade of the Russian Black Sea Fleet has confirmed that it is deliberately using chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops.

The American Institute for the Study of War ISW, with reference to the telegram channel of the 810th brigade, reports this in its next report.

Researchers note that the use of such means is an obvious violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, to which Russia is a party. Russian marines detailed the “radical change in tactics” the brigade is using against Ukrainian forces at Krynki on the left bank of the Dnieper near Kherson.

The Russians drop tear gas grenades from drones onto Ukrainian positions to dislodge Ukrainian fighters from their fortifications and then fire at them with various types of weapons.

To force UAF fighters to leave cover, the enemy uses K-51 grenades filled with CS irritant gas, a type of tear gas used for crowd control. That is, it is not fatal in itself.

However, the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of such weapons as a method of warfare, and Russia has been a state party to this Convention since 1997. ISW has already reported that Russian troops used K-51 grenades against Ukrainian positions in the Donetsk region in November 2022.
