The US inflation rate fell to 6%… The elasticity of feed rate control

Consumer price inflation in the United States last month was 6.5%, falling to a 6% level in 14 months.

Compared to the previous month, it recorded a decrease in about two years.

Slowing inflation is reaffirmed, and the pace of interest rate rises is expected to gain more momentum.

In December last year, the US consumer price index rose 6.5% compared to a year ago.

After rising to 9.1% in June last year and slowing to 7% in October, it fell to the mid-6% range in December.

Compared to the previous month, it fell by 0.1%, marking the first decline since May 2020.

Excluding energy and food, which are highly volatile, the core inflation rate also fell to 5.7% year-on-year, down to the 5% range in a year.

It is an analysis that the continued slowdown in US inflation has been confirmed time and time again with the figure in line with market forecasts.

“The indicators are clear: In the United States, the numbers are falling and the machine is breathing, even as inflation remains high around the world.”

As a result, it is expected that the possibility of adjusting the pace of interest rate hike by the United States Federal Reserve will be further strengthened.

Following last month’s big step to reduce the range of the hikes, there are observations that the range will be further reduced at a meeting scheduled for the end of this month.

Patrick Harker, president of the Philadelphia Yeoneun, also revealed that it would be appropriate to lower the interest rate increase to 0.25% immediately after the inflation announcement.

However, the fact that the prices of services, which the Fed is concerned about, are still on the rise and the labor market is still not cooling is a variable.

Last week, jobless claims in the US fell by 1,000 from the previous week to 205,000, the lowest level in 15 weeks, despite an increase in layoffs in the US business world.
