The warmest October since 1966

BANJALUKA – In the entire region, October was very warm, and in the Republika Srpska in most places the record from long ago in 1966 was broken, by a little more than one degree Celsius, said Milica Đorđević, Srni meteorologist of the Hydrometeorological Institute of the Republika Srpska.

Đorđević stated that the average air temperature throughout the month was 2.5 to 4.5 degrees higher than the average.

“How warm it was can be seen on the example of Banja Luka, where October was 1.7 degrees warmer than the previous warmest October in 1966, and the average temperature in the month corresponded to the average temperature for September,” Djordjevic said.

She pointed out that in Banja Luka, October 20 was the warmest October day since 1961.

“The average temperature was 26.4 degrees, which is even 15 degrees warmer than the average for this time of year. There were as many as 16 summer days in October with a temperature higher than 25 degrees, and there was even one tropical day when the maximum daily temperature exceeded 30 degrees Celsius,” said Đorđević.

She added that October this year also had the highest average maximum temperature, which was as much as 24.3 degrees Celsius.

“The highest temperature measured in October in Banja Luka was not recorded, because in 2006 it was measured at 30.9 degrees, and this year the highest maximum temperature in this city was on October 3 and was 30.2 degrees Celsius,” said Đorđević.

She emphasized that although the absolute maximum temperature for October was not broken, it still remains the warmest since measurements have been made.

Đorđević explained that the warmer weather caused a pronounced southwesterly current, which led to a rise in temperature due to the influx of warm air from the north of Africa, and such a situation persisted until the last day of October, and apparently it will continue.
