Just discharged from the hospital for 2 weeks due to a digestive illness, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (Binh Phuoc province) again carried her child to the hospital. According to Ms. Thuy, her child has been weak and has a poor digestive system since childhood, so every time during the dry season, he is often hospitalized because of vomiting and fever due to digestive diseases.

“Just one day after the holiday, the child had a fever again, so the family took him straight to the Ho Chi Minh City hospital for examination. The doctor admitted him to the hospital because he needed intensive treatment,” Ms. Thuy shared.

Similarly, at the Department of Pediatrics at Tam Anh General Hospital (HCMC), the number of children coming to the doctor due to vomiting and digestive disorders increased by about 20%. According to specialist doctor I Lam Boi Hy, Department of Pediatrics, Tam Anh General Hospital, diarrhea, digestive disorders, and food poisoning are often caused by bacteria such as E.Coli, campylobacter, listeria, salmonella, botulinum… cause. They have the common characteristic of thriving in environments with temperatures ranging from 5-60 degrees Celsius.

Hot weather causes food to rot and spoil if not stored properly. If children eat it, bacteria can easily attack the digestive system, causing digestive disorders and, more seriously, poisoning.

“Gastrointestinal infections are mainly transmitted through food. Organisms including yeast, bacteria or parasites attack the body causing intestinal infections, easily complicating bloodstream infections,” Dr. Boi Hy emphasized. strong.

At Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, even though it is a holiday, there are still many pediatric patients coming for examination and inpatient treatment. As the hot weather lasts longer, diseases related to the digestive tract, hands, feet, and mouth… are more common.

Doctor Truong Huu Khanh – Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Infectious Diseases, expert advisor to Children’s Hospital 1 (HCMC), said that prolonged heat will pose a risk of heat stroke. The cause is because the outside temperature is higher than the body’s normal temperature.

Notably, those at high risk of heat stroke are the elderly, children, athletes, and people who have to work too long outdoors under the hot sun without shade.

When encountering someone with signs of heat stroke, initial treatment is needed by taking the person with heat stroke to the shade, a cool area, and giving them water to drink slowly. If the patient shows signs of drowsiness, loss of consciousness, or coma, they should be taken immediately to a medical facility for emergency treatment.

To prevent heat stroke, it is normal to drink enough water; Particularly in cases where you have to work outdoors, you need to drink enough water and have time to rest in the shade. You can drink regular water or fruit juice. Note, limit drinking soft drinks which are not good for your health.
