The work of the Urbaser sweeping workers, Popayán recognizes and highlights – La Campana Newspaper

An army, especially of female heads of households, goes around the city with their equipment to keep the streets free of garbage.

Perhaps the permanent work carried out by the sweeping workers or “brooms”, as they are known, who get up early to leave the streets free of garbage, which many citizens confuse with public garbage dumps, without consideration for the city, is not valued enough. the environment and the sweepers themselves, mostly women heads of household, who travel between 11 and 13 kilometers with heavy bags.

To highlight the work they carry out and within the framework of the Safety and Coexistence Plan, a day was held aimed at the well-being of the workers of Urbaser, a company in charge of street sweeping, tree pruning, maintenance of green areas, waste collection. solid waste and final disposal thereof.

During the day, in which several entities participated, the members of Urbaser enjoyed recreational activities, and the women also had a beauty session, with hair and makeup. Likewise, there were awards in recognition of the hard work they carry out daily.

«Our gratitude to the Urbaser workers is great, we highlight their work for the proper functioning of the municipality. We want to thank them for their effort and dedication, to those who contribute to the well-being of the entire community with their work,” said the Secretary of the Government of Popayán, Consuelo Chantre.

This meeting not only served to recognize Urbaser workers, but also to strengthen the ties of cooperation between the company, local authorities and the community in general, in favor of a cleaner and safer environment for everyone.

Citizens must take into account that the activities carried out by Urbaser personnel are of high risk to their health and physical integrity; In addition to the protection measures provided by the company, there is a high accident rate in Popayán, because many users make inappropriate presentation of waste, depositing needles, razors, glass and other dangerous objects that harm the operators. , despite the special gloves they wear. These items should be placed in plastic bottles, tightly closed, before throwing them into the recycling bag.

Likewise, we must raise awareness about the duty that each person has towards the city and its surroundings, not to throw garbage on the street, not to take out bags and containers with waste before the collection car passes by, because dogs and Buzzards spread them, as do street dwellers.
