An old abandoned building in the historic center of Rancagua, located at the intersection of Millán Avenue and Astorga Street, has become a latent danger, a situation that worries residents and passers-by, since its walls can give way and collapse on the road. public.

This old, completely abandoned house has become a source of bad news in recent months, since at the end of June of last year the body of a woman was found inside the building, who suffered cutting wounds to the chest, in which case the Investigative Police (PDI) was in charge of solving it.

Once this case occurred, the property was closed and closed, but months later, another bad news captured the attention of the Rancagüinos, where, in addition to other times, fires have occurred in the same place that have destroyed everything that was in it. the interior of the property, which generates concern in the neighbors who live in its surroundings.

This site has become a refuge for homeless people and a den of criminals. Furthermore, its walls, weakened by the effects of the fire that has consumed the entire structure, represent a danger to people and vehicles traveling through the narrow street. Astorga street road.

The surroundings of this very old house are cordoned off with tape as a “Danger” sign, after the fire that occurred on February 24, but we still have to wait for the municipal authorities to take action to prevent any incident that could affect people passing through. both directions of the roads.

The mayor ordered demolition

Given this situation, the mayor of Rancagua, Juan Ramón Godoy, spoke about the danger that this structure represents for the residents of the regional capital who reside and travel through this sector, for which he stated that since last year this private property has been with demolition order.

The first municipal authority stated that, in February of last year, the Municipality of Rancagua had already notified the owner of this private property, as a result of the state in which it was found – in abandonment and in danger of collapsing – and furthermore, since the place It remained taken over by homeless people.

“On that occasion, the Municipality of Rancagua notified the owner of the property to clean and close the property,” said Godoy.

He assured that, after being notified, one of the owners of the property would have committed to closing, which occurred, but in an inefficient manner.

It is also important to note that the property has a demolition order.

“The Public Security Directorate supports the work of the police, through preventive patrols of public security vans to deter the occurrence of crimes in the area,” the Rancagüino mayor said in conclusion.
