They are accused of stealing 140,000 Philippine pesos (approximately 3.36 million won) and a mobile phone from the victim, Korean C. Mr. C said that he allowed Mr. A, who had no job or accommodation, to stay temporarily at his apartment in this area. However, Mr. A secretly let Mr. B into Mr. C’s apartment and assaulted Mr. C together.
They stole 40,000 Philippine pesos in cash (about 960,000 won) and the casino VIP card, and forcibly obtained the casino card password from Mr. C and withdrew 100,000 Philippine pesos (about 2.4 million won). They did not stop there and returned to Mr. C’s apartment to steal additional belongings of Mr. C.
Afterwards, Mr. C, who was captured by them, managed to escape. After receiving his report, the police arrested them.
“Our officers quickly and effectively apprehended the suspects,” a local police official said in a statement. “We are committed to protecting everyone in this community, including foreign nationals.”
Meanwhile, according to data received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Police Agency by Rep. Kim Young-bae (Democratic Party of Korea), a member of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, last month, 3,181 Korean citizens suffered from murder and robbery in the Philippines from 2020 to the first half of this year. In terms of accident and accident damage statistics for Koreans in the Asia-Pacific region, it is the second highest after China (6,054) and Japan (3,621). However, the government stated that it has never reached an agreement with the Philippine government regarding the protection of nationals living abroad.
