Thousands of Police Brace for 212 Grand Reunion in Jakarta
Jakarta, Indonesia – Security forces are gearing up for the 212 Grand Reunion, scheduled to take place at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on December 3rd. Over 2,400 personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Indonesian National armed Forces (TNI), and the Jakarta Provincial Government will be deployed to ensure the event proceeds safely and smoothly.
“The security personnel amounted to 2,489,” said Commissioner Besar Ade Ary Syam Indradi, Head of Public Relations Division of the Jakarta metropolitan Police. “This includes 1,937 task force personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, 110 task force personnel from the Police Resort, and 442 personnel from the TNI and the Jakarta Provincial Government.”
The annual reunion, themed “Moral Revolution for a Blessed Indonesia and Free Palestine,” is expected to draw large crowds from 3:00 AM to 8:00 AM local time. Authorities are prioritizing preemptive and preventive measures to maintain national security stability.
“To ensure a conducive environment for the event to proceed safely, orderly, and smoothly, we are taking these precautions,” explained Ade. He urged organizers to adhere to all applicable regulations.
The 212 Action, which the reunion commemorates, was a meaningful demonstration held on December 2, 2016. Led by rizieq Shihab and the islamic Defenders Front (FPI), it saw thousands gather at Monas and the Sudirman-Thamrin roads, demanding an inquiry into a religious blasphemy case against then-jakarta Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok).
Ade Ary also appealed to orators and field coordinators to express their opinions respectfully, avoiding hate speech or provocative statements that could disrupt national security. He reminded participants to respect public facilities and road users around Monas.
Traffic diversions will be implemented situationally, with road closures potentially in place depending on the number of participants and the event’s dynamics. Residents not involved in the reunion are advised to seek option routes to avoid congestion.
