Three ‘death’ holes appeared in Son La

From April 2 to April 30, in Nong Son village, Chieng Sung commune, Mai Son district, Son La province, 3 “death” holes appeared. The widest hole is about 7m and 9m deep.

On the afternoon of May 1, talking to reporters Dan Tri, Mr. Tong Van Son, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Chieng Sung commune (Mai Son district), said that the government has just relocated 2 households in Nong Son village due to the appearance of a “death hole”, threatening people’s safety.

According to Mr. Son, the first falling point occurred on April 2 at the fish pond of Mr. Lo Van Dien’s family. At that time, a loud noise came from Mr. Dien’s family’s fish pond built of bricks and cement, then a column of water sprayed up from the pond. All the water in the pond was suddenly withdrawn into a deep hole.

On April 17, a deep sinkhole appeared at Mr. Quang Van Inh’s house, 100m from the subsidence point of Mr. Dien’s house.

And yesterday morning (April 30), a new sinkhole appeared in Mr. Quang Van Chung’s kitchen area. This sinkhole is about 9m deep and about 7m wide.

According to local authorities, all three places where “death” holes appeared occurred in Nong Son village, Chieng Sung commune. All three sinkholes are waiting for opinions and direction from experts and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Son La province.
