Three questions to Mr. Jean-Paul AGBOH AHOUELETE, Commissioner General of FESMA – Togotimes

This May 15, 2024, the 3rd edition of the La Marmite International Festival (FESMA) opens at the Lomé convention center. Where are the preparations? What remains to be done? The question was put to the Commissioner General. Reading

Several dozen exhibitors have already registered and confirmed that the organization of Maman Marmite who will host the Marmite du Jour, the daily menus, is already in place, and the arrival of foreign Chefs at the end of the week is already scheduled. While the communications team continues to deploy our plan, the staff and our service providers are hard at work to open the construction site of the Esplanade of the Palais des Congrès which will host the Fair for a week of FESMA. This therefore means that we are showing diligence and creativity to provide the Togolese and foreigners whom we will welcome from May 15, with beautiful moments of sharing that only FESMA knows how to offer. Because as you know, our ambition is to make Lomé the capital of African gastronomy and FESMA, a socio-cultural event on the international agenda.

What is the program for the 2024 edition?

As with previous editions, the 2024 program aims to be demanding, diverse and rich. It combines authenticity with creativity. It creates a moment and a framework for the promotion of our local products and the promotion of African and Togolese cuisine. FESMA also serves as a space of expression for artists, scientists and academics.

In fact, the 2024 edition will feature a large culinary and agri-food fair, the heart of the event, where several exhibitors are expected, as well as at least 50,000 visitors. Our bet through this major meeting, both festive and forward-looking, is to promote the entire value chain from farm to fork. So it is a fair for producers, processors, distributors, wholesalers, artisans, traders, industrialists, financiers and even institutions, etc. coming from different backgrounds and sectors of activity.

This edition also aims to be a crossroads of giving and receiving, a framework for transmission with training and workshops, and sharing with exchanges and meetings.

In fact, an international scientific conference is scheduled, led by academics, professionals and practitioners on the theme: “The challenges of agricultural transformation and the valorization of local products: challenges and perspectives. » Two round tables on the themes: “Bread flours in Togo: advantages and constraints ” or “Transitions and food systems: challenges and perspectives for our territories » will also be on the menu. A Bread Day, Master Classes and Cooking Workshops will fill the days.

Activities, games, two concerts with renowned artists are also scheduled. The traditional gala dinner, designed around the theme “ A Thousand Colors » and signed by Togolese Chef Adjévi and Gabonese O’Miel will allow guests to discover the creativity of the expert hands of our guest chefs.

What are the main innovations of this edition.

We are taking participants on an exotic rural getaway from May 12 to Amossoukope, an agricultural town in the Plateaux region located 76 km from Lomé. On the program: guided tour, gardening, cooking workshop, local food buffet, barbecue, entertainment and games.

The 2024 edition is essentially marked by the digitalization of our services. Thus, participants can reserve their stands and pay for their tickets online, order their favorite dish at the fair from their workplace or home and have it delivered. Cash should not circulate on the site. The Master Classes and cooking workshops will be public and broadcast online.

Perhaps above all, the Catering area will be divided into 6 zones, each representing one of the regions of Togo, and the 6th the diaspora. Each of the zones will offer daily dishes corresponding to the region. Festival-goers will wander through the spaces and choose the dish and region of their preference.

One last word ?

We thank the public authorities for their concern for FESMA. Our deep gratitude to the various sponsors and partners who bring this ambitious festival with us and without whom, it would not exist.

We are calling on the public to come in large numbers throughout the week to the Esplanade of the Palais des Congrès. There will be unique moments to experience, including the gala dinner on May 18 at the Sarakawa Hotel.
