British actor and comedian Tim Curry, celebrated globally for his performances as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and the terrifying clown Pennywise in the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s It, died on Tuesday night at the age of 80, according to a report by TMZ corroborated by EFE.

Curry passed away at his home in Los Angeles, according to EFE. The veteran performer had faced serious health challenges following a severe stroke he suffered in 2021, which significantly altered his public appearances in later years. Born in Cheshire, England, in 1946, Curry originally launched his professional career on the stage in London’s West End before making a permanent transition to Hollywood during the 1960s.

His big-screen breakthrough arrived in 1975 when he starred in the cult classic musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, portraying the flamboyant, cross-dressing scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter. The role established him as a fixture of midnight movie culture and launched a prolific five-decade career spanning film, television, and voice acting.

A Defining Film and Television Legacy

Following his breakout in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry built a reputation for playing memorable characters across diverse genres. In 1985, he appeared as Wadsworth the butler in the ensemble mystery-comedy Clue, a role that remains a fan favorite. His extensive cinematic resume also includes playing the Hotel Plaza concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Jigsaw in Loaded Weapon 1, and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, as reported by EFE.

His distinct screen presence likewise landed him prominent villain and authority roles in major studio releases. According to EFE, he portrayed Dr. Yevgeniy Petrov in The Hunt for Red October and Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers. Beyond live-action film, Curry maintained a massive footprint in animation and television, earning three Tony Award nominations for his stage work and winning an Emmy Award in 1994 for voicing Captain Hook in the animated series Peter Pan and the Pirates.
