Newly released audio captures the moment OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush dismissed the company’s operations director, who had raised alarms about the safety of the Titan submersible. The audio is part of Netflix’s documentary, “Titan: the OceanGate Disaster,” which examines the ill-fated 2023 expedition.

David Lochridge, the fired operations director, had previously voiced serious concerns regarding the submersible’s safety before its tragic voyage. The Titan submersible imploded during a June 2023 expedition to the Titanic wreckage, resulting in the deaths of all five people on board. The incident prompted a large-scale international search and rescue operation.

In the audio clip, Rush defends his unconventional approach. He tells Lochridge, “I don’t want anybody in this company who is uncomfortable with what we are doing. We’re doing weird s here. I’m definitely out of the mold, I am doing things that are fully non-standard.”
Rush acknowledged the industry’s skepticism, saying, “I’m sure the industry thinks I’m a f*** idiot. That’s fine, they’ve been doing that for years. And I’m going to continue on the way I am.”
