According to the police on the 5th, Mr. A, a man in his 60s whose body was found naked on the 16th of last month, was found to be working in a furniture factory in Namyangju.
Mr A suffered from chronic illnesses such as dementia due to difficult circumstances and lived in a rented room with support from the factory.
People around him claimed, “Mr. A only knows the way to home and the factory” and “everywhere he went, he couldn’t even find his way home.”
On January 27, Mr. A went to a factory in Yeoncheon-gun to work with Mr. B, an official at the factory where he works.
At that moment, Mr. A suddenly collapsed and had a seizure, and Mr. B hurriedly transported Mr. A to the emergency room of a hospital in Uijeongbu City. Mr. B returned home after hospitalizing Mr. A.
However, while Mr A was being visited in hospital after Mr B’s departure, Mr A left the hospital alone at around 5pm on the same day without paying the hospital fee.
The police established that this was Mr A’s last move before his body was found.
A police official said: “The distance between the hospital and the sewer pipe is about 1 km. Considering the cold weather at the time, it is possible that Mr A, who had symptoms of dementia, was wandering and entered in the sewer pipe.”
However, it was reported that after Mr. A left the hospital alone, Mr. B, his family and people around him did not report him missing.
Regarding the fact that Mr. A was found naked, the police estimate that if hypothermia persists for a long time, he may have exhibited “abnormal undressing”, that is, the behavior of taking off his clothes even if it is cold.
Previously, at around 2.40pm on the 16th of last month, a river construction official discovered Mr. A’s body in a river sewer pipe in Gajeong-dong, Uijeongbu-si.
The firefighters and police recovered the body 8 meters from the sewer entrance. The body was found naked, without any particular injuries and in the process of decomposition.
The National Institute of Forensic Sciences, which performed the autopsy on Mr A’s body, gave its oral opinion to the police, saying: “There are no circumstances to consider it a homicide as the cause of death is unknown.”
A police official said: “There were CCTV cameras near the sewer pipe, but they were only kept for a month, so we did not find anything unusual. After completing further investigations with people nearby, we expect to close the case with a simple accidental death.” .”
