This match was the culmination of a feud that intensified after The Righteous revealed they were responsible for attacking Matt Hardy on the April 26, 2026, episode of Thursday Night iMPACT and during TNA Sacrifice. The two teams had previously faced off at TNA Genesis on January 17, where The Hardys also retained the titles.

World Championship Contract Signing

The broadcast featured the official contract signing for the TNA World Championship match at Rebellion between the champion, Mike Santana, and the challenger, Eddie Edwards. The proceedings were overseen by Director of Operations Daria Rae and Director of Authority Santino Marella.

During the segment, Eddie Edwards discussed the shared history between himself and Santana within TNA Wrestling, stating his intention to become a three-time world champion. Mike Santana responded by positioning himself as the standard of TNA Wrestling, noting that he turned down significant financial offers to return to the company.

The segment ended in chaos when Cedric Alexander attacked Santana from behind. Leon Slater intervened to assist Santana, subsequently taking out both Alexander and Edwards. Santana and Slater then cleared the ring, with Slater executing a dive to the outside.
