Togo: Djobo-Babakane Coulibaley appointed head of the Constitutional Court

Djobo-Babakane Coulibaley was appointed head of the Constitutional Court by decree taken Thursday evening by the head of state. Mr. Coulibaley succeeds Aboudou Assouma who died on May 26, 2023.

According to the Togolese Constitution (art.101), the president of the Constitutional Court is appointed by the President of the Republic from among the members of the Court for a period of six years.

Let us recall that the Constitutional Court is the highest court of the Togolese State in constitutional matters. It is responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Constitution.

It judges the constitutionality of the law and guarantees fundamental human rights and public freedoms.

Details that the legislative and regional elections are scheduled for April 29. Started on April 13 at 12 a.m., the electoral campaign will end on April 27 at 11:59 p.m. FIN
