Togo- Legislative and regional elections peaceful and without violence

While the country finds itself immersed in the electoral process of the legislative and regional elections, a week after the start of the campaign on April 13, a striking element strikes the minds: the peaceful atmosphere marked by fair play which prevails.

In a context where elections are often accompanied by tension and friction, the exemplary conduct of the electoral campaign this year testifies to the commitment of all political actors and the Togolese population in favor of a peaceful election.

This first week of the electoral campaign was essentially marked by concrete actions aimed at promoting dialogue and tolerance between the different political actors. The speeches of the candidates running for these two elections were imbued with messages of peace, highlighting the importance of citizen participation and respect for electoral rules.

“The head of state Faure Gnassingbé has something to do with it. His constant call for restraint and respect for democratic principles helped to create this favorable environment for this double vote. The President’s commitment to a peaceful and violence-free election deserves to be welcomed by all Togolese people,” claims a political actor close to power.

Precisely during the recent UNIR party congress on February 26 in Kara, Faure Gnassingbé sent a strong signal to all stakeholders, especially the activists of his political party. He called on them to preserve peace and stability during this crucial electoral period.

To date, all the candidates in the running are in this dynamic, demonstrating exemplary political maturity. Even on social networks, respect for everyone’s choices and opinions enriches debates.

In the days to come, it is imperative that all political actors and the Togolese population as a whole continue to demonstrate civic-mindedness, tolerance and responsibility.

To ensure the effectiveness of this electoral campaign for the double legislative and regional elections, the Head of State released a whopping 650,000,000 FCFA in financial aid to the various candidates. However, much remains to be done to consolidate the progress made so far. It is essential that the government continues to guarantee the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.

The electoral campaign continues until Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., with the election scheduled for Monday, April 29, 2024. Early voting for Togolese armed forces and other security forces will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 .
