Tom Cruise, Dolly Parton Among Honorary Oscar Recipients

Tom Cruise, the celebrated actor and producer known for his dedication to cinema, will receive an Honorary Oscar, the Academy announced.The Academy also will recognize Dolly Parton with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. Choreographer and actor Debbie Allen, along with production designer Wynn Thomas, will also receive Honorary Oscars.
The 16th annual Governors Awards will host the presentation of these honors Nov. 16. Last year’s honorees included Quincy Jones, Juliet Taylor, Richard Curtis, and the Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.
Academy President Janet Yang lauded the honorees. She praised Allen as a “trailblazing choreographer and actor” whose work has resonated across generations. Yang also noted Cruise’s ”unbelievable commitment” to filmmaking and the theatrical experience. She further stated that Parton exemplifies the spirit of the humanitarian Award through her charitable work, and Thomas has brought iconic films to life through his vision.
