Tom Cruise’s Fiery Stunt Lands Him a Guinness World Record

Tom Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts has earned him a Guinness World Record for the most burning parachute jumps by an ⁣individual. The record was awarded for his work ⁣in Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning.

The actor, a four-time Oscar nominee, completed 16 jumps from a helicopter with a fuel-soaked‍ parachute ablaze.‍ The daring feat was part of the‍ latest installment in the action franchise, showcasing Cruise’s commitment to authentic action sequences.

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, praised Cruise’s fearlessness. “Tom ⁤doesn’t ‍just play action heroes – he is an action hero! A large part of his success can be chalked ‍up to ⁢his absolute focus on authenticity and pushing‍ the boundaries of what a leading man can do,” ⁢Glenday said. “It’s an honor to be able to recognize his utter fearlessness with this new Guinness World Records title.”

The Mission: Impossible stunt ⁢sequence was filmed in Drakensberg, South Africa.Cruise and his stunt team spent weeks preparing for the burning parachute jumps, ascending over 75,000 feet in a helicopter. From there, cruise jumped with the flaming parachute, later deploying a backup chute.

During several takes, Cruise wore a 50-pound camera rig to capture close-up shots of‍ the fiery stunt. A behind-the-scenes look revealed the meticulous planning involved. “We’re gonna be real smart. ⁤I’m not saying be risky. We don’t take risks… obviously,” Cruise ⁢said ⁢in a featurette.
