Toothless Shines in Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon: A Stunning Transformation
New Live-Action Adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon
How To Train Your Dragon is getting a live-action remake. Originally released 14 years ago, the animated film follows a young Viking named Hiccup and his friendship with a dragon named Toothless. The new version features a human cast, with Mason Thames playing Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid. Gerard Butler is back as Hiccup’s father.
The first teaser shows Hiccup resisting his father’s wishes to fight against dragons. It also highlights Hiccup’s first encounter with Toothless. The trailer suggests that Toothless looks impressive, benefitting from advanced graphics technology. However, the rest of the film seems to rely heavily on special effects, raising questions on the need for a live-action version of an animated classic.
Critics worry that the remake may not bring anything new or exciting. Butler’s appearance as Hiccup’s father feels more like cosplay than a new performance. The film aims for a summer 2025 release, specifically on June 13. Fans can still enjoy the original movie, which is available for streaming on Max, Hulu, and other platforms.
