Shooter Franchises Return With Gears of War and Call of Duty

The autumn slate features major military and tactical shooter revivals, led by Microsoft and developer The Coalition bringing back their signature franchise on October 6, 2026. Gears of War: E-Day arrives fourteen years before the events of the original trilogy, depicting humanity’s first catastrophic underground clash with the Locust hordes, novinky.cz reported. Deník.cz added that the title will release on PC and Xbox Series X|S with availability on Xbox Game Pass from day one, offering both a story campaign playable solo, in two-player split-screen, or up to four-player online co-op, alongside traditional Versus matches and a four-player Horde Siege mode.

Later in the month, Activision and Infinity Ward will launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, according to denik.cz. Deník.cz reported that the campaign centers on a South Korean military unit fighting a North Korean invasion that threatens global stability, while Captain Price pursues a personal vendetta that intersects with the main conflict across locations including New York, Paris, and Mumbai. The title includes standard multiplayer suites alongside a cooperative DMZ mode.

Star Wars joins the October lineup on October 6, 2026, with Star Wars: Galactic Racer, developed by Fuse Games veterans with backgrounds on the Burnout and Need for Speed series, according to novinky.cz and hrej.cz. Hrej.cz noted that the game is set after the fall of the Empire in the Outer Rim's unofficial Galactic League, utilizing run-based progression mechanics that let players select races, upgrade racing machines, and drive through deserts, imperial debris, and ice caves on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
