Tottenham Midfield Signing: Romano Reveals January Deal Doubt
Tottenham Hotspur are planning to add another midfielder in 2026, even after finalizing a deal for Conor Gallagher.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported Wednesday that Gallagher has completed his medical and will soon be announced as a Spurs player. Romano stated on X: “Conor Gallagher completed his medical as new tottenham player, official statement next to announce him and Brazilian LB Souza from Santos.atlético Madrid receive €40m.”
While Gallagher addresses midfield needs, tottenham’s recruitment team believes another player is required.
The Times reports Tottenham is seeking a ‘midfield connector’ - a deep-lying, creative playmaker. The report notes Gallagher won’t fulfill this role, as the club needs a player to complement the defensive presence of Palhinha.

The club is prioritizing a creative passer from deep, but whether they can secure this signing in January or must wait until the summer remains uncertain.Players like Adam Wharton are unlikely to be available mid-season.
Yan Diomande, linked to several Premier League clubs including Tottenham, is not a viable option for Spurs in January, according to Romano.
