21-year-old Troy Parrott has temporarily bid farewell to Tottenham as he embarks on a loan spell in the Netherlands. The official announcement from Tottenham on September 25th revealed that Parrott will be playing for Dutch club Excelsior during the 2023-24 season. Excelsior also confirmed the loan deal, expressing their delight in acquiring the services of the talented striker.

Reflecting on the swift transfer, Parrott stated, “The medical and contract negotiations were concluded within a day, making for a busy but productive day for me.” The young striker also revealed that he had met with the Excelsior coach and general manager last week and felt that their style of play suited him perfectly.

Parrott further elaborated on his decision, stating, “The Dutch league is known for its technical abilities and overall strength, surpassing even the English second division. Therefore, joining Excelsior on loan seemed to be the right choice for me.”

Parrott, a product of the Tottenham Youth Academy, joined the club in 2017 and made his professional debut in 2019. However, with the presence of prolific striker Harry Kane, opportunities have been limited for Parrott. As a result, he gained valuable experience through loan spells at Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons, and Preston in lower leagues.

Continued Future with Tottenham

Despite his loan move to Excelsior, Parrott’s contract with Tottenham extends until 2025, ensuring he can return to the club and continue his career after this temporary stint. It is believed that his accumulated experience will make him an asset for the team upon his return.

A Rising Star for Ireland

Parrott represents Ireland on the international stage, having scored 4 goals in 20 appearances for the national team. His main position is as a striker, although he has also played as a left striker and attacking midfielder. Standing at an impressive 185 cm tall, Parrott possesses physical prowess alongside his skills.

Brief History of Excelsior

Excelsior, now Parrott’s new team, is associated with esteemed Dutch football club Feyenoord as its sister club. Although considered a smaller team, Excelsior has experienced fluctuations between the first and second divisions, gaining promotion to the first division for the 2022-23 season. The ongoing season marks their second consecutive year in the top division.

[마이데일리 = 이현호 기자] Troy Parrott (21) leaves Tottenham for a while and goes to the Netherlands.

Tottenham officially announced on the 25th (Korea time) “Parrot will play as a loan player for Dutch club Excelsior during the 2023-24 season.” At the same time, Excelsior club announced that they have taken Tottenham striker Parrott on loan.

Parrot said, “The medical and the contract agreement were all completed in one day. It was a very busy day,” he said. “Last week, I met with the Excelsior coach and the general manager. I decided that Excelsior’s style of play suits me well.”

Also, “The Dutch league is more technical and stronger than the English second division (championship). Therefore, transferring a loan to Excelsior was the right choice for me.”

Parrott is a striker from Tottenham Youth. He joined the Tottenham Youth Academy in 2017 and made his professional debut in 2019. However, with the outstanding striker Harry Kane, he could not get a chance. Parrott gained experience as a loan player in lower leagues such as Millwall, Ipswich, MK Dons and Preston.

Parrott’s contract with Tottenham runs until 2025. So, even after completing the loan deal at Excelsior, he can return to Tottenham and continue his career. If he accumulates experience and returns, it is expected that Tottenham will be used immediately as a sense of power.

Nationality is Irish. He has already scored 4 goals in 20 games for the Irish national team. His main position is striker, and he sometimes plays as left striker and attacking midfielder. The height is 185 cm.

Parrot’s new team, Excelsior, is a team that former Seongnam FC coach Kim Nam-il played for for a while during his active career. In January 2003, coach Kim Nam-il, who belonged to Jeonnam Dragons, moved to Excelsior on a half-year loan and played an active role in the second half of the 2002–03 season. Coach Nam-Il Kim went down in history as the fourth Korean player to play for the Netherlands after Song Jong-guk, Park Ji-sung and Lee Young-pyo.

Excelsior is a sister club to Feyenoord, a prestigious Dutch football team. It is a small, medium-sized club. It repeated promotion and relegation between the first and second division, and was promoted to the first division ahead of the 2022–23 season. This season is the second year of promotion.
