Tourist Reports Sexual Assault After Night out in San Juan
San Juan, Puerto Rico – A young tourist is recovering after reporting a sexual assault in San Juan early Sunday morning. The woman, who was visiting from the mainland U.S.,told police she was attacked after leaving a bar in the popular La Placita district.
According to police, the woman said she felt dizzy after having drinks at a bar in La Placita and decided to call an Uber. Though, the ride was never confirmed. She then requested another Uber, which was later canceled.
It was at this point, the woman alleges, that a man approached her, offering to drive her to her lodging in Puerta de Tierra. The woman accepted the offer, but the man reportedly drove to a secluded, dimly lit area where he sexually assaulted her.
The woman managed to escape the vehicle and ran to her hostel, where she sought help. She was then transported to the Centro Médico in Río Piedras for medical attention.The San Juan Criminal Investigations Corps’ Sexual Crimes Division is actively investigating the case.
