Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will visit China from October 11 to 15, 2026, marking his first official visit to the country in his current legislative role as bilateral trade continues to expand significantly, fr.vietnamplus.vn reported. Bilateral trade between Vietnam and China reached 216.1 billion dollars during the first eight months of 2026, representing a 35.2 percent increase compared to the same period in the previous year, according to fr.vietnamplus.vn figures.
Bilateral Trade Expansion and Economic Ties
China has remained Vietnam’s primary trading partner for more than twenty years, with economic ties continuing to deepen under shared strategic frameworks. Official data reported by fr.vietnamplus.vn show that by the end of July 2026, Chinese investors maintained more than 7,000 active projects in Vietnam, representing nearly 37 billion dollars in registered capital and placing China sixth among 153 investing countries and territories.
This economic momentum follows high-level diplomatic milestones, including a state visit by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Vietnamese President To Lam to China in April 2026. During that visit, the two nations issued a joint declaration aimed at deepening their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and signed 32 separate cooperation documents spanning multiple sectors, as detailed by fr.vietnamplus.vn. The Vietnam and China diplomatic relations were established on January 18, 1950, and in December 2023 both countries decided to deepen their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and build a Vietnam-China Community with a Shared Future of strategic significance.
Legislative Coordination and Official Meetings
During his official visit, Tran Thanh Man will travel at the invitation of Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress (NPC), according to fr.vietnamplus.vn reporting. The visit’s central event will be the co-chairing of the second meeting of the Cooperation Committee between the two legislative bodies, an institutional framework established to coordinate parliamentary exchanges. Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Minh Vu stated that this visit will contribute to consolidating Vietnam-China relations and enhancing the efficiency of parliamentary cooperation, which constitutes one of the pillars of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.
He noted that regular high-level exchanges have elevated relations between the National Assembly of Vietnam and China's NPC to an advanced level, helping solidify political trust and improve the legal frameworks governing bilateral projects.
Future Legal Frameworks and Regional Cooperation
Professor Mi Liang highlighted several practical areas requiring legislative alignment, including cross-border railway connections, agriculture, electricity generation, mineral resources, and science and technology, emphasizing the need to adapt legal policies to facilitate joint initiatives. He also advocated for expanding the role of parliamentary friendship groups and youth exchanges to strengthen grassroots ties between the two populations, alongside enhancing coordination within international and regional parliamentary forums.

Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Thanh Binh indicated that the upcoming committee meeting will allow both sides to evaluate the implementation of previous commitments, establish cooperative priorities for the upcoming period, and exchange governance expertise regarding legislation and parliamentary supervision, per fr.vietnamplus.vn.
