Tremor today: SSN, CDMX: Microseism of magnitude 1.3 shakes Magdalena Contreras

On the afternoon of this Wednesday, December 20, a microseism of magnitude 1.3 was recorded in the Magdalena Contreras mayor’s office. He National Seismological Service (SSN) indicated that the earthquake was recorded 3 kilometers northeast of said mayor’s office at 6:14 p.m.

Why doesn’t the seismic alert sound in microseisms? This is what the C5 says

The first point is that two sensors must register the telluric movement in the first seconds of its occurrence.

Another point is that the telluric movement must exceed the limits for the warning to be activated with the emission of the speakers.

The general coordinator of C5, Juan Manuel García Ortegón, said that point three to be considered for activation is that there must be a relationship between the magnitude and the distance from where the earthquake comes from to the city.

When are they not activated?

Garcia Ortegon He pointed out that in cases where the earthquakes have an epicenter in the Valley of Mexico, that is, very close to CDMX “it is impossible to establish a timely warning.”
